ArcScan, Inc. asked Evergreen Research, Inc. (ERI) to develop a new, state-of-the-art automated eye scanner using ArcScan’s Swept Beam Liquid Interface Technology™ to achieve a new level of imaging precision for the cornea and anterior eye segments. ArcScan remained a virtual company throughout the process, providing conceptual support to ERI’s engineering, regulatory and manufacturing teams.
ERI’s regulatory support resulted in:
European CE Marking
Health Canada certification
A remarkable US FDA 510(k) clearance in only 59 calendar days!
The Insight® 100 Scanner sets new standards for precision anterior eye scanning. Through use of VHF ultrasonic technology, it can image the cornea, iris, and critically important areas behind the iris that cannot be seen by optical systems. By “seeing through” the iris, the scanner provides precise detail of the lens capsule area, including at the haptic interface regions needed for implanting modern IOLs (Intraocular Lenses). Additionally, the Insight 100 precisely measures the angles of the tissues at the edges of the iris, enabling early detection and accurate monitoring of glaucoma.
The scanning process takes only a few minutes and the results are available immediately. The Insight 100 has now been used in numerous eye clinics and adopted by the US Military.
Human interface design
VHF ultrasound design
Infrared eye tracker design
Regulatory support and guidance resulted in an unprecedented 59-day FDA clearance.
Although the patents bare ERI staff names, it is ERI’s policy to assign all rights to all inventions and intellectual property to its clients.
ERI manufactures the Insight 100 scanner in Golden, Colorado.
